First Photography Research: Walker Evans
Walker Evans was a renowned American photographer who was well-known for documenting the impact of the Great Depression in black and white. As an artist, Evans disliked the formal photography. Instead, he preferred to capture the beauty of the events of daily life." I used to try to figure out precisely what I was seeing all the time until I discovered I didn't need to." (Artnet.com, 2023)
We will explore the photography made by Walker in the Subway with a hidden camera.
The project Walker Evans's name was Subway passengers, New York City
In the picture above, we can see a family where women dress well, and everyone dresses well, but the woman is not very interested in the kid or the boyfriend. The man tries to read something on the back of the newspaper, and the kid is looking for something unique. Everyone seems to go about their own business. You can see in the picture that the family does have this family look, but they are apart, the woman probably. I had domestic problems with the man, so he was shy and unhappy.
